ABOUT

Julia Catlin, PhD

My story.

In addition to psychology and psychotherapy, I am active in the arts. I am an operatic soprano, performing artist, and creative. I enjoy training in aikido, singing, crochet and knitting, writing, dancing, strength training, visiting art museums, cooking new foods, exploring and traveling, animals, writing, and being in nature.

My doctoral training consisted of clinical practica and an APPIC-approved/matched internship placement, similar to a medical residency. I completed my doctoral internship in clinical psychology at Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program in Los Angeles, CA. I completed my clinical practicum at Alicia’s Place, a nonprofit practice specializing in psychotherapy and trauma assessment. I completed my assessment rotation at Grant-A-Gift Autism Foundation, a pediatric neuropsychology clinic specializing in the assessment of autism spectrum disorders (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning and intellectual disabilities, and fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD).

Before my doctoral training, I earned my master’s degree in mental health counseling at Viterbo University and have worked across the lifespan in community mental health agencies.

I have taught undergraduate psychology courses at Truckee Meadows Community College. I returned to a teaching and mentoring role when I became an approved clinical supervisor for graduate students in counseling, social work, and marriage and family therapy in the Chesapeake, VA area. I currently provide post-graduate clinical supervision in Nevada.
